Parental Overcontrol in China

Parental control in China is always a popular discussion topic including daily, school, and social life. For example, Chinese parents take care of their children by doing everything for them including washing dishes and cleaning their rooms, so they can focus on studying without any distractions to take their time of studying away. Also, for most children, phones or electronic devices are strictly forbidden with the aim to help students focus on their academic works and prevent them from being obsessed with playing games or watching videos. In addition, many parents choose to reduce contact between their children and the outside world for the sake of safety. For the life outside the school, Chinese children usually have countless tutoring classes and interest-oriented classes since elementary school even though they might not want these classes, and parents claim that they are preventing their children from losing at the starting line of life. All these behaviors are started with good intentions of providing children a clear path to a better future, but it still has many negative impacts. These children will not know how to wash dishes, how to make their beds properly, and how to make dinner for themselves without parents. Also, once parental control is taken away from children, will they know how to organize their lives? Will they be immersed in these electronic devices that they finally have? Because parents are overprotective and overcontrolled, children lose their chances to control their lives which might turn out to be that they do not know how to control it anymore, and they fail to learn how to protect themselves which might bring them more damage. I personally tend to lean toward that parental overcontrol has more cons than pros because with parental overcontrol, children will not know how to control their own lives even when they become adults since they get used to that parents are doing everything for them, but parents will not be with them forever, and independence is most important to people’s life. It is always you who holds the greatest power in deciding your own life.
